Republic of Ghana

Ghana is located in West Africa along the Gulf of Guinea and the Atlantic Ocean. The country is bordered by the Ivory Coast in the west, Burkina Faso in the north, Togo in the east. Accra is the capital of Ghana. The word Ghana means "Warrior King".  Ghana was the first African country to obtain independence from European colonization. Over the years Ghana has gain the reputation of one of the most stable African country. 

Ghana is a presidential constitutional republic with a parliamentary multi-party system since 1992.  The current president is John Dramani Mahama who became head of the state following the unexpeceted death of President John Atta Mills in July 2012. Mr Mahama won an extremely tight election but the NPP (opposite party) said he had won fraudulently. In August 2013 after an intense legal battle the Supreme Court declared that the election was free and fair. 

Ghana is a multiethinic country.  There are 15 million people with Ghananian citizenship while 375,000 registered as skilled workers, foreign students and the rest are illegal immigrants.  The official language is English, which is spoken by 90 % of the population, however 73% speak fluent Akan language and other different dialects. According to recent census Christians constitute the majority of religious groups followed by Muslims who are the second largest religion.

Ghana is the second largest cocoa producer in the world after Ivory Coast. It is also the biggest gold miner after South Africa. The country is the continent's fastest growing economies and newest oil producer.  Real estate and housing market have become an important and strategic economic sector particularly in urban centers such as Accra, Kumasi, Sekondi-Takoradi and Tema.
